【导语】农历五月初五端午节，是我国与春节清明节中秋节并列的四大传统节日之一。端午亦称端五，端的意思和初相同，称端五也就如称初五;端五的五字又与午相通，按地支顺序推算，五月正是午月。又因午时为阳辰，所以端五也叫端阳。五月五日，月日都是五，故称重五，也称重午。

OurcountryhasanancientpatrioticpoetnamedQuYuan,hewasexiledbythecalumny,theinabilitytosavetheperilofthecountry,excessiveanger,soJianghimselfvotedtoHealthmartyred.Itisforhimnottoeatthebodiesoffishandshrimp,oneafteranothertothevariouspancakeintotheriver,thewaterusedtofeedanimals,andsomeshipoffthewateratthewaterbeast.ThishasbecomenowtheDragonBoatFestival,eatingdumplings,friedcake,theoriginofthedragon-boatrace.
Havingsaidthat,IthinkofmyfamilyhavebeenthesceneoftheDragonBoatFestival.Grandmotherpinchadifferenttypeofpancake,hasflorets,small,smallstarfish,isreallydifferentform.hurrytogoshoppingKok,calmlytookmyfathertobuytzu.Alongrowofteams,likealongqueue,wemanagedtobuyatzu.Wecanseethateveryhouseholdhaveattachedgreatimportancetothisholiday,peopleinthiswaytoexpresstheirthoughtsandreverenceYuan.
Iwanttolovethemotherland,studyhard,makeausefulcountrypeople,suchasQuYuan,asbefore,bythepeople‘srespectandaffection.
DuanwuFestivalisatraditionalChinesefestivalheldonthefifthdayofthefifthmonthoftheChinesecalendar.ItisalsoknownastheDoubleFifth.[citationneeded]Ithassincebeencelebrated,invariousways,inotherpartsofEastAsiaaswell.IntheWest,it'scommonlyknownasDragonBoatFestival.
TheexactoriginsofDuanWuareunclear,butonetraditionalviewholdsthatthefestivalmemorializestheChinesepoetQuYuan(c.340BC-278BC)oftheWarringStatesPeriod.HecommittedsuicidebydrowninghimselfinariverbecausehewasdisgustedbythecorruptionoftheChugovernment.Thelocalpeople,knowinghimtobeagoodman,decidedtothrowfoodintotherivertofeedthefishsotheywouldnoteatQu'sbody.Theyalsosatonlong,narrowpaddleboatscalleddragonboats,andtriedtoscarethefishawaybythethunderingsoundofdrumsaboardtheboatandthefiercelookingcarveddragonheadontheboat'sprow。
IntheearlyyearsoftheChineseRepublic,DuanWuwasalsocelebratedas"Poets'Day,"duetoQuYuan'sstatusasChina'sfirstpoetofpersonalrenown.
Today,peopleeatbamboo-wrappedsteamedglutinousricedumplingscalledzongzi(thefoodoriginallyintendedtofeedthefish)andracedragonboatsinmemoryofQu'sdramaticdeath.
AttheendoftheZhouDynasty,theareawenowknowasChinahadfallenintoastateoffragmentationandconflict.WhiletheZhoudynastyhadruledforseveralcenturies,severalotherstates,originallyfeudaldomains,triedtocarveouttheirownkingdoms.ThestateofQinwouldeventuallyemergethevictorandunifyallofChinaunderoneruleforthefirsttimeinhistory.
QuYuanservedasministertotheZhouEmperor.Awiseandarticulateman,hewaslovedbythecommonpeople.Hedidmuchtofightagainsttherampantcorruptionthatplaguedthecourt--therebyearningtheenvyandfearofotherofficials.Therefore,whenheurgedtheemperortoavoidconflictwiththeQinKingdom,theofficialspressuredtheEmperortohavehimremovedfromservice.Inexile,hetraveled,taughtandwroteforseveralyears.HearingthattheZhouhadbeendefeatedbytheQin,hefellintodespairandthrewhimselfintotheMilouRiver.Hislastpoemreads:
ManyaheavysighIhaveinmydespair,GrievingthatIwasborninsuchanunluckytime.Iyokedateamofjadedragonstoaphoenixchariot,Andwaitedforthewindtocome,tosouruponmyjourney
Ashewassolovedbythepeople,fishermenrushedoutinlongboats,beatingdrumstoscarethefishaway,andthrowingzongziintothewatertofeedbraverfishsothattheywouldnoteatQuYuan'sbody.
TheModernDragonBoatFestivalstartedfromthattimetothisday,peoplecommemoratedQuYuanthroughDragonBoatRaces,eatingzongzi,andseveralotheractivities,ontheanniversaryofhisdeath:thefifthdayofthefifthlunarmonth.
DragonBoatracesarethemostexcitingpartofthefestival,drawingcrowdsofspectators.DragonBoatsaregenerallybrightlypaintedanddecoratedcanoes.Ranginganywherefrom40to100feetinlength,theirheadsareshapedlikeopen-moutheddragons,whilethesternsendwithascalytail.Dependingonthelength,upto80rowerscanpowertheboat.Adrummerandflag-catcherstandatthefrontoftheboat.Beforeadragonboatenterscompetition,itmustbe"broughttolife"bypaintingtheeyesinasacredceremony.Racescanhaveanynumberofboatscompeting,withthewinnerbeingthefirstteamtograbaflagattheendofthecourse.AnnualracestakeplacealloverChina,HongKong,Macao,Taiwan,andotheroverseasChinesecommunities.
